Our History

After serving our country for 20 years as an Active Duty Infantry Soldier Tom retired in 2006.  His military career enhanced and mastered his teaching skills by serving 4 years as an US Army Ranger Instructor, 2 years as a Basic Training Drill Sergeant,  and spent his last year as the Commander of the Northern Iraqi Army Training Academy Located in Tikrit, Iraq.

Some of Tom's military accomplishments include, Ranger School, Airborne School, Jump Master, SERE School, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, Military Free Fall,  Military Free Fall Jump Master, Distinguished Honor Graduate US Army Drill Sergeant School, First Sergeant Academy, and was selected to the US Army Sergeants Major Academy of which he respectfully declined to Retire.

Tom brings sound judgment and many skills to Wild Rose Equestrian Center. As a second generation Farrier, he is fully qualified to take on our large band horses. Along with the blacksmithing skills, his metal working has been instrumental. Tom has manufactured all of our stall fronts, gates, and steel work in the barns as well as other locations.
Tom's handiwork here on the farm is not the only thing vital, his riding and training skills are also excellent. Teaching both English and Western disciplines, our lesson program is tremendously enhanced with his instruction.

****************************************************************************

Starting her Career as a child, Karen has enjoyed Horses in numerous disciplines. At the age of 9 she proudly competed in a 55 mile endurance race as the youngest rider!  She finished 27th out of more than 200 riders.

Growing up on an Arabian farm in Southern Oregon Karen's main objectives were training and showing. By the age of 12 Karen had competed in both English and Western disciplines, showing her Stallion in Arabian Class "A" shows.
She has many Championships, Trophies, and Ribbons in English Pleasure, English Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, and Halter classes. She was named High Point Junior rider two years in a row.

Even as a child Karen was very dedicated and focused on success with horses. She was responsible for halter breaking all young stock. As the fillies and colts turned 3, she would then start them under saddle.  By the age of 15 Karen had trained many horses and was instrumental in marketing them to buyers.

At 13 years old Karen was asked to give lessons to a new horse owner.  After working with her first student, Karen found that she could drastically impact the success of others in their search to become great equestrians.

Spending her life in the horse industry has been more than fulfilling. Thriving on teaching and training; she enjoys working with all breeds of horses, and all ages of students. Having 41 years of experience, she strives to share the knowledge that she has accumulated with others.
The Lesson Program here at Wild Rose Equestrian Center is a testimony to the years of experience of both Tom and Karen's love of sharing knowledge and skill with others.
